Frequently Asked Questions

What are the different sizes of Groodles?

In our experience there are 4 different sizes of Groodle.

  • Toy (we do not breed any toy breeds)

  • Mini (minituer)

  • Medium

  • Standard

Please note that different breeders have different size definitions. We have also noticed a lot of breeders selling puppies as mini groodles however they are not what we classify as a true mini.

So if size matters to you make sure that you clarify the size estimate.

Sizes

Miniature Groodles (grow height - 9cm to 40 cm)

(think size wise between the size of a Maltese dog to a cocker spaniel dog size.

Miniature Groodles can come from Groodle to Groodle or Groodle to mini poodle.

Never golden retriever to mini poodle.

If you are being sold a puppy and the breeder says they are first cross between a golden retriever and a mini poodle, they are not true mini pups and you will most likely end up with a larger pup in the medium range.

Miniature Groodles are second cross or multi generation because as soon as you add a golden retriever to the mix you will get pups in the medium category size

Medium Groodles (grow height wise 40 cm to 55 cm)

(think the size of a small golden retriever or Labrador)

They can be first cross, golden retriever to miniature poodle. They can also be second cross/multi generation, groodle to groodle. But if it is a first cross it is always to a miniature poodle.

Standard Groodles (They grow in height from 55 cm to 73cm)

Now these are the largest of the breed and definitely the big teddy bears.

They can be first cross golden retriever to standard poodle. A standard poodle is bigger than a golden retriever. You can also get standard pups from a second generation standard pair also.

Standard dogs are best suited to a large yard or acreage. They are not apartment dogs.

Just to get a little more tricky

Now to add a little confusion often you will get pups that will fall in their size between the gropes of sizing.

Ie. large mini/small medium

Large medium/small standard

A good breeder will ;guesstimate’ the size based on the dogs they have bred.

We will always tell people if we feel a pup is going to fall somewhere in the middle even if we classify a pup as a certain size. You will hear Mel say “this pup is a miniature however they will be on the larger size miniature to small size medium”

or

“this pup is a medium however they will be on the larger size medium to small size standard” if she feels that the pups will in fact fall bang on the border of 2 sizes.

What size Spoodles do you breed?

We only breed Miniature Spoodles.

Most the time it will be either cocker spaniel to miniature poodle or Spoodle to poodle or Spoodle to cocker spaniel. Normally with the cocker spaniel being the largest and heaviest.

They can range in size from 25-45 cm they are classified as a small to medium size dog.

*We do not breed anything toy size

Fur

What are the different fur types of Spoodles and Groodles?

Both Spoodle and Groodles come in many coat types like the following.

+Sort straight

+Long straight, these will typically be more Cocker spaniel or more golden retriever

Both these types are not guaranteed to not shed we find it is 50/50 as to whether they do or not. Many tell me they don’t but some do but the ones that do do not shed as much as a normal cocker spaniel or golden retriever.

+Wavy, people often call this fleece coat.

+Curly many people will call this wool coat

And to confuse you once again there are in-betweens.

It really depends on the genetics of the parents.

We have one male that throws the straight coat pups but he also throws curly and wavy coat pups.

How do you know when picking a pup what its fur will be like when it grows up?

We are asked all the time if we can predict what a pups fur will be like and the answer to that is it can be quite hard before 8 weeks of age. Sometimes we are spot on but we never guarantee we can just tell you based on our experience what the coat will turn out like.

What colour puppies do we breed?

the colours we have are-

Sometimes things can happen that are out of our control. Even when things happen that are less than ideal we want everyone to know we stand behind our dogs and want to make sure that everyone is happy.

“My partner and I live in Sydney & bought our first spoodle puppy through Prestige. We were extremely happy with the whole process from choosing her to picking her up at the airport. She was a beautiful, happy puppy but after some time we started to experience some health issues. After a number of trips to the vet, multiple tests and exploring different treatments she was diagnosed with an extremely rare defect. Non-genetic. We spoke to specialists and discussed every possible option but were left with the very tough decision to humanly euthanise her. Prestige puppies completely understood and supported our decision and without hesitation offered to replace her at no cost and when we were ready. A few months later we decided to take up the offer and we welcomed a new little spoodle, Parker, into our lives. Mel and the team at Prestige made this experience as easy as possible and covered all the costs of the replacement. Parker is growing up to be a very happy and healthy puppy and brings us and every one who meets her a lot of joy. We love having a Prestige puppy and highly recommend them as a breeder.”— Nathan and Josh

What is your pricing?

We do not have one set price for all of our pups. All our Spoodles and Groodles are priced when they are made available.

Our prices start at $4000

Sometimes we will have other pups that are reduced in price

We also often have adults which are able to be adopted for an adoption fee, this fee covers all there medical ie. dsexing, teeth cleaning, ear clean, update vax and a final groom.

How does your waiting list work?

If you have filled out an inquiry form from our website Melina will be in touch with you through text.

*plz note filling out the form on our website does not mean you are on our list it is only so that Melina can contact you.

Once it is established which breed you would like to be on the list (we call this our priority list) for and what pups we have coming up (waiting to be born) we will ask for a $100 priority list fee, this is a non refundable deposit & normally is for a specific litter, it guarantees you will be offered a puppy from that litter or the next.

The $100 priority fee comes off the total amount of your pup.

The order we receive deposits is what determines the order of the list.

Once on our list its just a matter of waiting untill Melina is able to send photos of the puppies for you to choose the pup that will be yours. This will normally be between 4-6 weeks of age.

Once you have chosen the pup you want then we ask for a further $400 which also comes off the price of your pup. This then holds your pup till they are old enough to leave us and join your home after 8 weeks.

We ask for full payment to be paid before the pup leaves our hands.

Are we able to choose our pup in person?

Most the time this is not possible because, if you are on the list to choose a puppy from a litter its normal between 4-6 weeks that you will get to choose your pup. we do not have visitors to our pups until they have seen the vet, had immunisations ect and this normal happens between 6-7 weeks.

How do I get to choose my puppy?

Between 4-6 weeks Melina will send you photos to choose which pup you would like. We promised that we take great photos of each pup, Melina loves photography so this is something we pride ourselves on.

Are your parent dogs health tested?

Our parent dogs are DNA tested or from DNA tested parents/lines.

Our dogs visit the vet regally, both before and after each litter and for their vaccinations, yearly health examination.

Do your puppies come desexed?

No our pups are far too young when they leave us at 8 weeks old to undergo a desexing.

We do however sell all our our dogs with a desexing contract. we recommend that you have your pup desexed after the age of 6 months.

What is your members only site/section on your website?

This is only for those who are buying a pup from us.

Once you have placed a deposit to choose one of our pups then you will be given access to it.

Mel will send you a link.

There you will find a heap of information, tips and tricks and videos to welcome your new puppy home.

What is included when we receive our pup?

Your pup will come with its first vaccination and a microchip.

Your pup will also be wormed. (but will need to be wormed by you the week after you get your new pup unless melina tells you other wise)

You will receive a puppy pack which will include food, toys, treats, a scented blanket and much more. Within the pack will be a folder which will include things like discount vouchers (we have gone as paperless as possible so most of the discount vouchers are now in the members section of our website) , a parentage pedigree, Vax book and a copy of the chip number.

*You will also receive access to our private Facebook group just for our puppy parents, also access to our members only section right here on our website which is full of useful information, videos, product discounts and links.

These are examples of your puppy pack. You will not recive everything seen here however you will recive items like this.

Will my puppy come microchip and vaccinated?

Yes all of our pups come with their first vaccination and microchip. No pup will not leave our home without a vet visit and their first fax and microchip.

Your pup will need further vaccinations at 12-14 weeks and 16-18 weeks then yearly vaccinations

What do I do to put my pups microchip under my name?

Nothing Melina will make sure that the chip is transferred to you with the information you supply once you have chosen your pup.

You will receive a text and an email from central animal records which you will need to confirm.

Your pups microchip transfer should be done in the first 2 weeks of receiving your puppy.

there is more info about this in our members section.

What age will my puppy be when I get to take him/her home?

Your puppy will be 8 weeks or older. We do our best to keep your pup with its mother and siblings till 8 weeks. It is best for your pups personality and health, immune system.

It is also a perfect age for you to take your pup home as this is a great time to bond with your new baby.

Can you keep our pup for longer?

Sometimes people will need us to look after their baby for longer than 8m weeks. this is completely fine for a week or so. we understand the time needs to be right for you and some times people will take holidays and need us to hold for longer.

This is something we are able to do. sometimes there will be a fee if it is over a week.

Do you send your puppies to other states in Australia?

The answer to this is yes, we have sent many pups all over our beautiful country.

Many people wonder if its stressful for the pup however we find that they actually do very well our pups seem to be quite confident and come out of their crate with much enthusiasm and show that they can run your home lol!

Of course each pup has its own personality and some handle it better than others but we have never had a pup that it has affected long term. normally after 15 minutes they are making their new home their own.

Where are you located?

We live high in the beautiful hills of Gippsland Victoria.

We offer free delivery to Melbourne, and surrounds. We also take care of all needed bookings for flights and transport to other states.

Is it expensive to send a pup to other states in Australia?

We do our very best to get the best most competitive price possible, most the time the transport, air flight and airline approved create you will get to take home with you will cost $300-400 to most major air ports in Australia

Should I expect a "perfect" puppy?

I am sure you already know the answer to this question, but no! Our puppies are just that... puppies. They will still get into mischief, nibble on hands, potty on the floor, and test boundaries. I do everything I can to give them the best start and a solid foundation but your training, time, and commitment is needed to grow your dog into what you want.

All of our training and direction are tools to help you raise the best dog you can. We highly recommend group puppy classes, beginner classes, and advanced classes. Finding a positive reinforcement trainer is going to help continue the training that we have already started. Puppies will be puppies! I always say, a tired puppy is a good puppy!

How often should I have my dog groomed?

Both fleece & wool coats will need maintenance. Your dog will require clipping 2-3 times a year. you can do this yourself or take your dog to a professional groomer.

Remember the look of your dog is a lot about how they are groomed. We recommend taking a photo of a dog you like to the groomer and tell them how you would like the style to be cut. Just like you would if you were having a hair cut.

We have all had bad hair cuts but lets try to avoid this lol.

Regular grooming will also make your dogs coat more manageable.

Do you have adult dogs that need homes?

Yes occasionally we do. Our mother will only have 1-5 litters with us and then they will need forever homes.

Our males also retire but generally they do stay with us for longer.

Why do a lot of your new born videos & photos on social media look red?

The reason for they is because we live in Victoria the weather is unpredictable and can be very cold. The red glow you see is heat lamps all our mothers and babies are inside with heat lamps.

New born pups can not regulate their own heat.

Do you do guardian homes?

We sure do. We offer guardian homes to those we trust who live close.

It is a great way for us to make sure that our dogs are in a well loved family environment.

So on our socials you may see or dogs with their families and not us.

* We are extremely picky about who we work with

Do you do stud services?

No we don’t.

The health of our dogs is the upmost importance for us and bringing in outside dogs we don’t know personally carries risk to the health of our dogs.
